imprisoned in cuba have contacted an anti-torture expert for the u.n. for help. alan gross has spent nearly three years in a cuban jail. in that time, he's lost more than 100 pounds and has developed other medical conditions. in a letter made public yesterday, a lawyer for gross says, if he continues to be denied proper medical care, his treatment will, quote, surely amount to torture. earlier this year, the 63-year-old gross developed a mass behind his shoulder that u.s. doctors he has not been treated for. gross is serving a 15-year sentence for what cuba calls crimes against the state, charges gross denies. >>> new this morning, d.c. firefighters are trying to figure out what sparked the flames in northwest washington. this is at the intersection of 14th and spring street just before midnight. the building was full of smoke. we're told the fire started in the basement and was quickly put out. no one was hurt. montgomery county firefighters are also trying to figure out what sparked this fire in dickerson. firefighters posted this photo on twitter. the home was engulfed in flames. we're t

today. senator bozeman u.n. this morning as a matter of fact. i came in last night and got caught in the fog trying to get in. you probably just drove down from maine, did in you? but we thank you for being here and rest assured all of the members will not only receive the full testimony of the commander but also from the questions that are going to be given here -- we are webcasting as well so folks will be able to see it streaming live and also it will be stored on the internet so folks can get a look and see for themselves. and i've got a full statement that i want to enter into the record, but i do want to extend a very warm welcome to your new commander. we are glad to have you. it is a pleasure to meet you this morning. the 2012-13 national commander james koutz. we are proud to have you with us today and we look forward to your testimony and learning from you where the legion stands on your legislative agenda. i also want to welcome the legion's of delivery that is here as well. my friends from florida to i had a chance to visit with this morning at breakfast very briefly.
